
| CALIFORNIA ZOOS The Los Angeles Zoo is located in the heart of the nation’s second-largest city. Each year 1.4 million visitors pass through the gates to view a collection of more than 1,200 animals from around the world. The 100-acre (40-hectare) San Diego Zoo is home to 4,000 rare and endangered animals representing more than 800 species and subspecies, and a prominent botanical collection with more than 700,000 exotic plants. It is located just north of downtown San Diego in Balboa Park. The San Francisco Zoo, Northern California's largest zoological park and conservation center.
