| MISSISSIPPI ZOOS The Jackson Zoo is accredited by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA). The Zoo serves up to 200,000 visitors annually, with 47% from the Jackson metro area, 43% from other Mississippi counties and 10% from other states. Their mission is to provide visitors with a quality recreational and educational environment dedicated to wildlife care and conservation. Hattiesburg Zoo is one of the places that makes the town bristle with life. Tucked into 14 acres of Hattiesburg’s Kamper Park is one of America’s great small zoos. Begun with a pair of lions, the zoo has grown to accommodate 19 exhibits from five continents, including the recent completion of a new South American habitat. Here, visitors come face-to-face with the zoo’s new jaguar, separated only by a clear pane of glass. Other popular animals include zebras, ostriches, gibbons, guenons, lemurs, playful prairie dogs and, of course, alligators and mighty tigers. Future exhibits will include black bears, bobcats, raccoons, river otters, reptiles, waterfowl and several other species. Don't forget your camera! |
