| NEW JERSEY ZOOS Turtle Back Zoo is quickly becoming the pride of Essex County, earning a reputation as one of the recreational and educational jewels of the region as well as one of New Jersey's prime zoological resources. Combining a park-like setting with amenities that cater to both visitor and animal comfort, Turtle Back Zoo is a destination that can truly be enjoyed by all. Cohanzick Zoo is nestled among the woods and waterways of Bridgeton City Park, is one of the last free zoos in the nation. More than 60 years old, the Cohanzik Zoo displays more than 100 animals in modern, naturalistic exhibits. The emphasis here is the fauna of Asia and South America, and visitors will enjoy seeing monkeys, bears, big cats, crocodiles, and snakes. Cohanzik also features New Jersey's only walk-through aviary. A trip to Cape May County Park and Zoo is always a treat, a treat to be enjoyed by everyone. Enjoy meeting Charlie Camel, Jerome Giraffe, Brutus & Tinker-bell Cougar, Max & Ellie Lion, Matilda & Dundee, Wallaby and all the rest of our residents whose numbers are now approaching 250. Our Zoo is nestled within the beauty of the main park and it's a "can't miss" feature of the park system. With nearly 250 species of animals, birds and reptiles, all handsomely displayed, you can count on entertainment for the entire family. Mini Zoo in Newark Museum is the home of more than one hundred live animals representing forty-three exotic and domestic species. Some of the animals on display have been injured in the wild and rehabilitated but are unable to be released into their natural habitats. These living exhibitions give our visitors a chance to learn about animals and their habitats, the environment and the impact people have on nature. Don't forget your camera! |
