RHODE ISLAND ZOOS

Roger Williams Park Zoo is open year 'round, rain or shine - so you
can come on "safari" during any season! The Zoo is forty (40) acres.
The average length of stay is three (3) hours.The path through the zoo
is a bit over one mile long. The Zoo has over 950 animals and 160
different species including elephants, giraffe, cheetah, polar bears,
moon bears, gibbons, bison, snow leopards, tree kangaroos, wallabies,
baby alligators, etc.

Established under the will of Mabel Norman Cerio in 1950, the Norman
Bird Sanctuary
constitutes the largest area of preserved open space in
Newport County. A wildlife refuge encompassing over 300 acres and 7 miles
of trails that wind through a diversity of habitats. Nearly 30 acres are
maintained as hay fields. Woodlands are the most prominent plant community
and four ridges provide spectacular views of the surrounding ocean and ponds.
