
| TEXAS ZOOS The Abilene Zoo maintains a collection of both plants and animals. The animal exhibits are surrounded by plants native to Texas. The previous theme of the zoo was to compare animals and habitats from the Southwestern United States and Central America to similar regions from Africa and Madagascar. At Austin Zoo, adults and kids alike can enjoy the great outdoors and experience a close-up look at animals from around the world...all in family friendly environment. Austin Zoo offers a shady picnic area, a perfect place to hold a child's party, a family gathering or a company event. So, come over to the wild side of Austin; we're just 20 minutes from downtown. The Dallas Zoo and The Dallas Aquarium at Fair Park offer a variety of family events year round. The special public events offer lots of activities and live music and are free with the price of regular Zoo admission. Currently, the zoo is undergoing the largest expansion project since it opened in 1967. Maasai Giraffe and White Rhinoceros exhibits opened in the summer of 1999.
